Cliptop Changelog

What's new in Cliptop

Full release notes for Cliptop, including clipboard history features, Mac and iOS workflow improvements, bug fixes, and performance updates.

Version 1.9.1macOS

Cliptop 1.9.1: Wider panels and steadier selection

Cliptop 1.9.1 gives you more control over the clipboard panel and makes everyday selection, pasting, and syncing more reliable. You can widen the panel, adjust the copy sound volume, and name protected clips before you lock them.

New features

Make the panel fit your workflow

A new width control in Settings lets you expand the clipboard panel from its default size to a wider layout. Use the extra space when you want to see more of long text, links, filenames, or other clip details.

You can also set the volume of copy sounds independently, so Cliptop’s feedback can stay audible without being louder than you want.

Find locked clips by name

Cliptop now asks you to name a clip when you lock it. The name remains searchable in History while the protected contents stay hidden, making private clips easier to find without exposing what is inside them.

Product changes

Keep your selection in place

Selecting a clip no longer recenters it unnecessarily. The panel keeps the selected clip in place and scrolls only when the clip is outside the visible area, so browsing your history feels steadier and more predictable.

Bug fixes

  • Improved iCloud Sync recovery and handling of temporary sync problems.
  • Prevented paste actions from creating duplicate clips in History.
  • Made the pause button easier to click.
Version 1.9.0macOS

Cliptop 1.9.0: Lock private clips and pause capture

Cliptop 1.9 gives you more control over what stays in your clipboard history and who can see it. You can now lock individual clips or entire Pinboards, then open them with Touch ID or your Mac login password. You can also pause clipboard capture whenever you need a break from history.

New features

Lock only what needs protecting

Lock a clip to hide its contents while keeping it close at hand. Cliptop replaces its preview with a locked state and asks you to authenticate before you can view, copy, paste, or otherwise use the protected content.

For a collection of related clips, lock the entire Pinboard instead. Every clip inside is protected together, making it useful for private projects, personal details, or anything else you do not want sitting openly in your clipboard library.

Keep locked content protected across your Macs

Locked clips and Pinboards remain encrypted when iCloud Sync is enabled. The protection travels with them through your private iCloud account, so synced content does not need to be exposed just to stay available on another Mac.

Pause clipboard capture on your schedule

Need to copy something without adding it to your history? Pause capture for 30 minutes, one, two, four, or eight hours, the rest of the day, or indefinitely. A visible paused state makes it clear when Cliptop is not recording new clipboard activity, and you can resume capture whenever you are ready.

Bug fixes

Protected workflows

Locked clips can no longer be dragged out of Cliptop while they are protected. This release also improves window focus around authentication and protected actions, along with the reliability of locking and syncing protected content.

Version 1.8.0macOS

Cliptop 1.8.0: Snippets and faster keyboard workflows

Cliptop 1.8 turns frequently typed text into reusable snippets and makes it faster to work through your clipboard without reaching for the mouse. You can now expand saved text in any app, fill in template details as you go, preview copied files, and act on visible clips with new keyboard shortcuts.

New features

Type it once, reuse it anywhere

Save text you use often as a snippet and give it a short trigger. Type that trigger in any app and Cliptop expands it into the full text, whether it is a quick reply, an address, or a longer block you would rather not type again.

Snippets can also include template variables for details that change each time. When you use one, Cliptop asks for values such as a name or date before inserting the completed text.

Preview and use clips from the keyboard

Press Command-Y to open macOS Quick Look for a copied file or image, so you can confirm what you found without opening another app.

You can also press Command-1 through Command-9 to quickly paste or copy one of the visible clips. Command-, now opens Settings.

Product changes

Smarter actions and a tidier panel

Calendar Smart Actions now do a better job of recognizing scheduled launches and interpreting event details that include an explicit time zone.

Trial and update notices have moved into the clipboard panel’s top toolbar, keeping important status information visible without taking over the panel. The Text Inspector now follows the system appearance more consistently, too.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed the update window sometimes appearing behind other active windows.
  • Fixed newly captured clips taking a moment to appear in the clipboard panel.
Version 1.7.0macOS

Cliptop 1.7.0: Smart Actions and search by meaning

Cliptop 1.7 makes your clipboard history more useful after the moment you copy something. Smart Actions can now recognize calendar events in copied text and images, while semantic search helps you find a clip even when you cannot remember its exact words.

Cliptop 1.7 introducing Smart Actions and Semantic Search

New features

Turn copied details into calendar events

The first Smart Action recognizes event details in text and images, then offers to add the event to Calendar. When Cliptop spots a title, date, and time, you can review the suggestion and create the event without retyping everything yourself.

Calendar suggestions can be turned on or off from the new Settings > Smart Actions section.

Search by meaning, not only keywords

Semantic search makes it easier to rediscover clips when the exact wording escapes you. Search for the idea you remember and Cliptop can surface related text from your history, even when your query does not contain the same words as the original clip.

More control over your history

You can now choose how long Cliptop keeps unpinned clipboard history, from one day to forever. Cliptop checks for expired clips once a day, and you can also run a cleanup immediately from Settings > Capture & Privacy. Pinned clips are always kept.

App Store customers can also unregister the current Mac from the billing settings when they need to free a device slot.

Product changes

  • Refined several Settings screens, including the Accessibility status and ignored apps controls.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed the clipboard panel opening over fullscreen apps when Disable in fullscreen apps was enabled.
  • Fixed deleting a clip sending you back to the beginning of the list.
  • Fixed saving an edited text clip so it now preserves rich text and updates the existing clip instead of creating a replacement copy.
Version 1.6.0macOS

Cliptop 1.6.0: A bigger home for your clips

Cliptop 1.6 gives your clipboard history more room to breathe. The new Library view opens your clips into a larger grid, making it easier to scan a busy history, rediscover something you saved, and see more of your collection at once.

Cliptop 1.6 Library view showing clips in a larger grid

New features

Meet Library view

Open Cliptop with your usual shortcut, then press the shortcut a second time to move into Library view. You can also open it from the new library icon next to Settings. From there, the wider grid gives you a more visual way to browse and organize all your clips without changing the quick clipboard panel you already use throughout the day.

A little more feedback, tuned to you

Copying something can now answer with a subtle click, so you know Cliptop caught it without looking away from your work. You can choose a different sound—or keep things completely quiet—from Settings > General.

We also added a larger font size in Settings > Appearance, giving clips a little more presence when you want easier reading.

Product changes

More polish throughout Cliptop

Colors written in OKLCH are now recognized alongside Cliptop’s existing color formats. The clipboard panel also feels more grounded with new shadow effects, while an improved notch animation makes opening Cliptop feel smoother.

New installations now start with an 800ms open delay, giving the notch interaction a calmer default rhythm. Existing installations keep their current setting. We also refined onboarding so the first few minutes with Cliptop are clearer and easier to follow.
