Troubleshooting
iCloud sync doesn't work
Use these steps when Cliptop on your Mac has clips or pinboards, but Cliptop on your iPhone stays empty after iCloud Sync is enabled.
Short version
- On iPhone, turn iCloud Sync off in Cliptop Settings.
- On Mac, open Cliptop Settings, make sure iCloud Sync is on, then click Repair.
- Wait for the Mac repair sync to finish.
- On iPhone, turn iCloud Sync back on and leave Cliptop open while it downloads.
Why this helps
Cliptop syncs clips and pinboards through your private iCloud database. If one device synced before the other device had a usable cloud state, a normal sync can look complete while still showing no clips.
Repair sync asks Cliptop to rebuild the sync state: the Mac uploads its local clips again, and the iPhone clears its saved cloud cursor when iCloud Sync is turned back on.
Step-by-step repair
- On your iPhone, open Cliptop, go to Settings, and turn iCloud Sync off.
- On your Mac, open Cliptop Settings and go to iCloud Sync.
- Make sure Sync with iCloud is on.
- Under Manual sync, click Repair.
- Keep Cliptop open until the repair sync finishes. Large clip histories or image-heavy histories can take longer.
- Open Cliptop on your iPhone again and turn iCloud Sync back on.
- Leave Cliptop open for a moment while clips and pinboards download.
If clips still do not appear
- Confirm the Mac and iPhone are signed into the same iCloud account.
- Confirm iCloud is available on the device and is not disabled by Screen Time or device management.
- Run Repair on Mac one more time, then turn iCloud Sync off and on again on iPhone.
- If the iPhone shows a sync error, send that message to support@cliptop.app.
Privacy note
iCloud Sync uses your private iCloud database. Cliptop does not send synced clipboard contents to Cliptop servers.
